I enjoyed the outdoor game when Edmonton hosted it but it was cold as hell that day.

Winter Classic turned out to be a pretty good game. Sucks it rained, but how many pro's can say they've played an NHL game in the rain?

That was a fucking sweet game. A couple shit calls here and there, but that's normal. I think everything evened out though.
However the play where Ovechkin was trying to hold up Fleury, then sliding back in front of the goal to shoot and make was a bullshit call. From the ref's point of view, yeah maybe he was 'obstructing' but it's fucking clear (especially in slow-mo) he was holding him from tipping over.

I liked the no handshakes at the end.. obviously the teams don't like each other, keep it real and don't put on a front for 'the sake of the game'

Has anyone been watching the '24/7' series on HBO? Really good so far. One more episode this week at some point.

I think HBO did a REALLY good job with the 24/7 series.
Wish they would have done it last year for the Flyers/Bruins WC.

oh, it definitely didn't.. but from how much of a dick/how funny Pronger is to the media, dude would be great to watch on this.
I'm still super appreciative of the Broad Street Bullies documentary that HBO did last year, it was very well done.

I laughed my ass off when it showed Ovechkin looking like a toddler with his PS3, sitting Indian Style on the floor. Then as he was suited and ready to go, I think the narrator said, "Ovechkin doesn't need to pack extra clothes or toiletries, but just his gaming system". Hilarious.

i found 2 more reasons to hate the caps/ovie in that series: their horrible taste in music and ovie having tramp stamps. wtf?

If its Ovie's house in VA, I'm pretty sure he owns that and his parents stay there. So its more like they live with him... Also I'm a huge Caps fan ;D

What if MAF totally fell..the net would have been wide open for Ovie to score. I'm (obviously) not a fan of the call, but luckily we didn't need that goal in the end.

I think either way the result is the same. It was incidental contact, but he was bumped which kept him from being in the goal mouth. It wasn't like Ovechkin ran him, it was just a bump, but it kept him from being in the net.
I'm surprised Ovechkin took it so well, actually. He celebrated, they disallowed it, and he kinda went, "well, yea ok.." and got over it.

How do people outside of Buffalo and Canada view the World Juniors? Does anyone give a shit? It's mayhem here.. we've been reverse-Canadian Bacon'ed by our northern neighbors and there's the USA / Canada game at 7:30. It's going to be like every Buffalo/Toronto game, except intensified by 13942 and with probably twice as many Canadians in the building, because they travel hard for national events.

I'm not too into it, my Canadian friends are. But it's always used as a selling point at draft time (World Juniors gold winner, etc) and when talking about rookies/AHL

It's mostly crazy good hockey. While I like the NHL, there's a sense of urgency in these kids playing for their country. My friend works at Niagara University in their stats department and has been working every game there at the rink and he said it's the most intense live hockey he's ever seen, and he's gotten all the lesser-billed games. I wish I had the NHL Network so I could actually watch more of it.

I love watching the World Juniors.. tonight's game should be great (GO USA!). I was going to go up this year, and either volunteer to get in all the games or just buy tickets but I waited way too long.
