Canada with a win. This team was kind of built to beat the Americans and they did that.

we went to the classic, it was incredible, even though the pens lost, the experience was rad as fuck and it was a huge benefit to the city. worth every penny

Next years winter classic better be in New York and feature the NY Rangers. I would pay a lot of money to go.

I would pay a lot of money to go. ive heard it will be the rangers since they're the only US original 6 that hasnt played in it. if the leafs were a better team i'd say that'd be a sweet game. but they'll still be a struggling mess next season

even though we lost, the pens and caps fans could agree on one chant in the 3 sections around us... "FLYERS SUCK!". this dude was sitting there wearing a Flyers starter jacket with a Capitals baseball cap. never heard someone get heckled so much before...

The bowl game was the 30..I wonder how long it would take to turn that into ice. And you can't count on the Giants/Jets both being away. The Classic's location this year was announced in July I think? When does the NFL schedule get released?

The NHL's ineptitude shouldn't be the reason there isn't a game.. they should be the professional organization they are supposed to be and PLAN AHEAD a little bit, let the NFL know, and then hopefully it works out.

That said, it'd be much more badass if it were in NYC itself at one of the baseball diamonds.

Its the most logical place to put it with Yankee Stadium being tied up and football at the Medowlands. Citi is big enough, extremely easy to get to and not tied up with any events. Also, next year, New Years Day falls on a Sunday. There is talk that they are going to do the winter classic on Dec 31st to keep attendance up. There is also talk of a double header this year, with a day game and a night game, but in two different locations in the states.

Are they TRYING to drive this event into the ground? I was on the fence about it being every year, thinking it would take the specialness out of it. Now it's going to have 2?

I doubt they'll do a doubleheader. they'll keep it to just one game. Citi Field makes sense since the Mets have a tough time generating revenue for the stadium, having the NHL game there could help them off-set some of the MLB debt.
that being said, being played in a football stadium is just a much better setup for the people at the game. I think only the first 10 - 15 rows at Heinz field couldnt see the ice, where as in a baseball stadium I think it'd be more. also, if you're going to be in the NYC area you want to be able to maximize the revenue and exposure, and the Meadowlands would have a MUCH larger capacity than either Citi or Yankee stadium.

Yea, I'm cool with a once a year deal every year. But, I'd be fully against two games.

I was sitting in row 15 at the Pinstripe Bowl and I could see the whole field fine - but you're right about attendance. That's half the reason of having the winter classic - getting 80k people there to watch it. And double header? lame. A single memorable game is more like it.

They shouldn't do 2. Having the Winter and the Heritage classic is also overkill IMO. It helps they are a month apart though. Single game is the way to go.
I heard they might have one in Denver or Philly next year. Denver would be pretty awesome. Get another Western Conference Classic in.
Excited for the Canada/Russia game tonight. Don't really care who wins but should be a great game.

That 3rd period in the world juniors was NUTSO. Can't believe Russia even won, let alone in that fashion. Awesome.
